What is ID3v2 audio tags?

ID3v2 is tag format of many types of audio files (MP3, AAC and other).

ID3v2 was supposed to be the next generation of ID3v1 tags. It improves on ID3v1 by putting the tag at the beginning of the file for streaming and ID3v1 tags backwards compatibility. Also, ID3v2 has no set length on the characters in a tag and a total maximum size of 256 megabytes. Binary data, such as photos, are also supported in ID3v2. ID3v2 supports all ID3v1 tag, too many to list here, with more being added.

ID3v2 supports Unicode so that internationalized tags can be used. You can use ANSI characters on the tags too.
